After earning his Bachelors in Secondary English Education from Macon State College, Mr. Bates began teaching English at Veterans High School in 2011. Since then, Mr. Bates has earned his Masters in Teaching and Learning from Liberty University and his Specialist in Secondary English Education from the University of West Georgia. In addition to his Specialist Degree, Mr. Bates also received his reading endorsement from the University of West Georgia.

While teaching at Veterans, Mr. Bates has had the privilege of coaching golf, cross country, and soccer.

Outside of the classroom, Mr. Bates has a wonderful wife, Sarah, and two amazing children, Charlotte and "Jonny."
