Dr. Amy Barbour was named principal of Veterans High School in 2018, after beginning her tenure at Veterans High School as the Assistant Principal for Instruction in 2010. Barbour received a bachelor's degree in English with secondary education certification from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In 1996, she began teaching at South Johnston High School in North Carolina. Having taught all levels and content areas of high school English in North Carolina and Alaska, Dr. Barbour came to Houston County in 2004 and began teaching at Houston County High. After serving as the English Department Chair for two years, Dr. Barbour served as an assistant principal at Houston County High before joining the Veterans High leadership team. She has earned a master’s degree and a specialist degree in School Administration and Leadership from Georgia College and State University. In addition, she has a Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Leadership from Columbus State University.  She has been with the Houston County School District for 17 years.

She counts herself blessed to be able to work with the students, staff, and parents of Veterans High School.  She finds leading and learning as a Warhawk to be a great honor, making it a daily mission to support the tradition of creating graduates of character in an environment of excellence.

Dr. Barbour is married to Lt. Col. Stephen Barbour, who is stationed at Robins Air Force Base. They have two children: Hannah, a student at Auburn University, and Landon, a student at Veterans.
